The referral window for NMSD Highly Capable/Gifted services is now open.
Students can be referred by a teacher, parent/guardian, community member or themselves for highly capable service consideration on an annual basis within our referral window by completing a referral form. Forms must be completed and submitted within the open referral window for a student to be considered for highly capable testing.
Referrals will be accepted until November 1st, 2024.

PLEASE NOTE:
Students in 2nd and 5th grade are universally screened for Highly Capable services and do not need to be referred.
Kindergarten students are not eligible for referral or highly capable qualification.
Some characteristics of gifted students include:
Ability to comprehend material several grade levels above their age peers
Surprising emotional depth and sensitivity at a young age
Strong sense of curiosity
Enthusiastic about unique interests and topics
Quirky or mature sense of humor
Creative problem solving and imaginative expression
Absorbs information quickly with few repetitions needed
Self-aware, socially aware, and aware of global issues
