April is Autism Acceptance Month. This change in title focuses on the difference between awareness and acceptance; moving towards connecting personally, learning more, talking to people to gain understanding, compassion and sensitivity.
As part of this special month, we would like to re-share a presentation held back in January at the School Board Meeting. It was titled, "Vision of Inclusion" and featured the special education team from Sand Hill Elementary, along with administrators, presenting an inspiring talk on the services they provide using the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support model. Most powerful was the speech given by one of our parents and the journey her son Sammy has had in our District.
We ask you to honor Autism Acceptance Month by taking a few moments of your day to watch this presentation, or read the article from the Shelton Mason County Journal, and learn more about what our District is doing to support neurodiversity.
